Liberation Day - Detroit Edition
What is Liberation Day?
Liberation Day is the global day of protest against the Civil War on drugs on every first weekend of May. Hundreds of locations worldwide demonstrate in solidarity for cannabis liberation and an end to policies that have exacerbated the problems of hard drug addiction on a global scale. There is sure to be an event near you This event consists of the Liberation Day rally in a city park all day, a free concert and Million Marijuana March at 4:20 pm. Once exclusively a New York City event that started in 1972, this event went international in 19999. It is the oldest, cintinuous, annual protest in the US after the July 4 DC SMOKE-IN, which started in 1970 but was two years shy of being continuous. Including the Ann Arbor Hash Bash, the three longest running annual demonstrations ever in America over any subject are for cannabis liberation! Today a coalition of law reform groups come together to promote progress and justice together to create a simultaneous, cumulative impact.
The Cures-Not-Wars national Web site has the most complete and credible listing of event locations for the first weekend of May demonstrations, or you may visit GlobalMarijuanaMarch.org for other march/demonstration locations. Organize an event and contact Cures-Not-Wars to add your city.
Cures-Not-Wars advocates a way to end the drug problem in a twofold approach
1) Ibogaine is the Antidote to Addiction - Put it to Use!
Clearly the harm associated with drug abuse is agreed to be the damage that is caused to individuals who are addicted and the harm they cause society by their addictive behavior. It is clear that drug treatment is key to the solution. The problem is that drug treatment, as it exists today, is slow and ineffective at best and a cruel hoas at its worst. For most addicts willing to quit, treatment in unavailable due to cost and overcrowding. It shouldn't be. But your government is standind in the way of the only treatment that truly solves the problems of addiction in favor of prison cells and the chemical prison of maintenance drugs. This is why we promote Ibogaine for drug treatment. learn for yourself that there is a drug treatment that works! Prohibition creates an environment of fear that scares addicts away from treatment options and blackmails progressive polititions from attempting to dismantle this bureaucratic idol. But if we solve the problem first then the government can't have thrir drug war1 It tood a group of pot activists to shame our government into approving this Schedule I drug for study. The current Phase I FDA Approval Trial is funded by donations and is expected to be completed this year. If the drug companies paid for it or if DEA and ONDCP used federal funding, Ibogaine would have completed Phase I, Phase II ane Phase III approval trials a decade ago! Instead they resist the approval of the only proven addiction antidote and reveal their true motives which have more to do with power and profit than public health.
2) POT is the Anti-Drug - Free the Weed!!
Our drug policies are mostly aimed at harmless and non-addicted users of cannabis instead of distributors of the drugs of addiction. It is wrong and ceceptive to group cannabis with addictive drugs, not only because cannabis is not addictive, but also because using cannabis is anti-addictive. Our laws put pot smokers in contact with pushers. If we followed the Dutch example of separating cannabis from hard drugs, by putting it in its own regulated market system, we would reap the same benefit of less hard drug addiction. Since most people who want to smoke pot for recreation are already doing so this chane would not create a significant rise in the number of users. Pot is the gate keeper so most smokers do not go on to become addicted to hard drugs. Free it and the use od the legal drugs of addiction, alcohol, tobacco and mood elevators will drop. As a responsible recreational user of cannabis, you have a proud history to look back on. many of your fellow users were people who made huge contributions to all human endeavors and to te progress of civilization. The oldest civilizations that farmed grew cannabis. Hemp paper is responsible for the survival of most historic documents and classical literature. Hemp canvas was crucial for exploration and then trade ove the high seas. Our founding fathers grew cannabis for paper and fabric. they had high praise for it as a national recourse. More recently, it was creative fuel for Bob Dylan who later turned the Beatles on topot prior to their makin the Rubber Soul album. Bill gates invented the BASIC computer programming language while a regular user of pot. Steve Jobs, a fellow pot partaker, developed the Apple computer. Pretty good for a bunch of supposedly inferior pot heads.
Activism
Liberation Day is the global day of protest against the injustices of drug prohibition on every first weekend of May.
Hundreds of locations worldwide demonstrate in solidarity for cannabis liberation and an end to policies that have exacerbated the problems of hard drug addiction on a global scale. There is sure to be an event near you with over 125 US locations.
Once exclusively a New York City event that started in 1972, this event went international in 1999. The second oldest continuous annual protest in the US after the July 4 DC SMOKE-IN. Now a coalition of law reform groups come together to promote progress and justice together.
Advocacy
Cures Not Wars advocates a way to end "the drug problem" with a twofold approach.
Clearly, the harm associated with drug abuse is agreed to be the damage that is caused to individuals who are addicted and the harm they cause society by their addictive behavior. It is clear that drug treatment is key to the solution. The problem is that drug treatment, as it exists today, is slow and ineffective at best and a cruel hoax at its worst. For most addicts willing to quit treatment is unavailable due to cost and overcrowding.
This is why we promote Ibogaine for drug treatment.
IBOGAINE IS THE ANTIDOTE TO ADDICTION
Beyond the disease of addiction is the cruel persecution of drug users by drug prohibition laws. These laws are largely enforced against harmless and non-addicted users of cannabis instead of high level distributors of the drugs of addiction. It is wrong and deceptive to group cannabis with addictive drugs, not only because cannabis is not addictive but that using cannabis is anti-addictive. If we followed the Dutch example of separating cannabis from hard drugs by putting it in its own regulated market system we would reap the same benefit of less hard drug addiction. Since most people who want to smoke pot for recreation are already doing so this change would not create a significant rise in the number of users. As the veil of government secrecy is lifted and medical science becomes the source of drug information we may see a reduction in the use of the legal drugs of addiction, alcohol, tobacco and mood elevators.
Pot is the anti-drug, to know what I mean takes an understanding of addiction and the relationship between cannabis and Melatonin.
Prohibition creates an environment of fear that scares addicts away from treatment options and blackmails progressive politicians from attempting to dismantle this bureaucratic idol.
